FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a day at camp entail?

Every day at camp offers something new and exciting. Days begin with an ice breaker game that allows campers to loosen up and meet their fellow campers. The campers are then split up into age groups. Then, campers begin the rotation of problem solvers and activities. The kids work together to accomplish the objectives of each of the games. Every week encompasses elements of everything Camp 40 Acres has to offer. High climbing, survival, team building, pioneering and more are utilized every day. Campers have two snack breaks, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and then a lunch break. Normally, after lunch the whole group takes a nature hike, led by staff members, where they learn about the wildlife and important safety information.

What is the policy for safety at camp?

We have a professional nurse on site at all times during each day at camp. Most of the nurses at camp work in the Wilmington school system and are all professional nurses. They are in charge of all the medical records and will know the allergies of each camper and be ready for any allergic reactions. We’ve never had a problem in the past. We pay very close attention to the individual needs of campers and our staff and nurses are all capable of keeping our campers safe and healthy.

How old are campers?

Our age groups go by color (ages 5-12). We have the Red Group which is K through 2nd Grade, the Yellow Group 3rd and 4th Grades, and the Green Group which is 5th grade and up. Mostly we try and keep the kids in groups that are with kids their same age but we’ve made exceptions in the past for kids who don’t feel comfortable and want to be with older or younger siblings. We do some activities such as ice-breakers and end of the day games where the kids will all be together but most of the programming hours during the day they will be with kids their own age as they go through our program stations run by the trained, paid staff members.
